Silicon Valley Disc Golf Club

SVDGC Newsletter Vol 4. Issue 2 - April 2000

Dear Discerning Members,

The ANNUAL MEETING for the Silicon Valley Disc Golf Club will be on Sunday, April 30th at 10.30 AM at Hellyer Park. We'll meet at the bulletin board on the east side of the Highway #101 freeway. Enclosed is a proxy in the event you are unable to personally attend. Please fill out the proxy and send it in so that we can have a quorum. If you are able to attend, then your proxy is given back to you and you can vote in person rather than through your proxy.

MONTHLY TOURNAMENTS are alive and well thanks to the efforts of Mark Bruce. Mark will be the tournament director for the 2ND SATURDAY event that will begin this Saturday, April 8th. Amateurs ($5.00) and Pros ($10.00) are invited to test their skills under tournament conditions with the net proceeds going to the Club. Pros will play for cash and Ams will have non-cash awards. We're going to be establishing a player ranking and course rating system through the regular playing of this event. If you can help out with the running of the event please contact Mark or any of the Board Members.

CONCRETE TEE PADS are also alive and well and almost complete. So far we have completed the pads for both the front and back locations on holes #11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17 and 18. We'll be working on the remaining pads on SATURDAY, APRIlL 15TH at 11 AM. Many thanks to those who have donated funds and/or their labor to this beneficial cause. The pads look sharp and the course looks and plays better.

PARKING along Hellyer Avenue should be O.K. again very soon. The City of San Jose posted "No stopping anytime" signs along Hellyer Avenue to eradicate the truckers and their vices. That has worked and we haven't seen too many truckers or their after-effects. Jim Challas visited City Hall and comes back with a report that parking will soon be restricted to a 2 HOUR LIMIT for a designated section of Hellyer Avenue alongside the course.

We're now offering "HOLE SPONSORSHIPS" that are renewable anually. For $250 a company or individual can have their name or message displayed for one year on both the front and back tee sign posts for a particular hole. The sponsor sign will be displayed right below the hole sign and have a surface area of 8" x 11".

There's a constant need for funds to frrther develop and maintain the course. Your DONATIONS are TAX DEDUCTIBLE and we have an immediate need to get the brush-hog to Hellyer to knock down the weeds. The cost is $250. We still owe the attorney about $700 for her work on gaining the IRS status as a 501c3. And the insurance, it's due in October and it's never too early to begin thinking about those funds of $750. We need money for the concrete work that'll be done in mid-April. You get the picture? Good. Send money now.

See you at the course!
